Protected bike infrastructure doesn't exist in most of the USA, so visibility is a key part of staying safe. It can be even more difficult during the darker winter months. Children's bikes are lower to the ground. Cars, SUVs and trucks have grown larger, which creates a bigger front blind zone.
The Bike Beam is better than a bike safety flag. It shines light from a large area as a bike totem so that you can be easily seen from a distance. Have fun with the changing colors and make those you ride past smile.

How it attaches (IMPORTANT: Please check for fit!)
Axle mount fits
Bikes with axle nuts (and unused fender eyelets)
Ensure there is no fender installed that might block the metal bracket.

The rack mounting straps can attach to most racks.

Small-wheeled bikes
Not recommended for bikes with wheels smaller than 16".
Through-axle wheels, no bike rack
On wheels with a through-axle, there is unfortunately no location to mount the metal bracket or attach the rack mounting straps.
BMX-style Bike Pegs / Axle Pegs / Wheelie Pegs on the Rear Wheel
The pegs prevent the metal bracket from holding the flag pole if they are on the rear wheel. They are OK on the front wheel.

Use a standard flag mount
The light can attach via a metal flag bracket on the rear axle under the quick-release or axle nut.
Attach it to your bike rack
If you have a cargo bike or bike rack, the light can attach to a rack via flexible straps.
Designed to keep my kid visible
I started this project after a few night rides with my child. I realized that it was hard to see her riding in the dark. Even with headlights and tail lights. Her bike was so low to the ground that they didn't stand out. The Slow Streets near us in Oakland were a great addition, but they didn't always get us to where we needed to go. I was worried that we wouldn't be seen by drivers.
I worked on this at night and between Elementary school Zoom meetings. I designed and built prototypes of this bike light to make bikes stand out better in the dark. The light stands tall, is bright and colorful, and is visible from all directions.
I want families to feel welcome riding at night.
I've designed the light to fit into a standard metal bracket for mounting onto an axle. Or you can attach it with the flexible straps to a rack or a cargo bike. The base of the pole includes a rechargeable battery, charged via a standard USB port. A single button turns the light on and off and changes color and blink mode.

I ride my recumbent trike to work and back home. Every day, one way is in the dark, whether I work first shift or second shift. When I am riding my trike, my head is below the level of a pickup trucks headlights – I am lower to the ground than the hood of a pickup truck. And, people driving cars are trying to avoid other cars, buildings, trees and, maybe people.. bicyclists are not on that list and are not seen.
The Bike Beam bike light really is a life saver.
