Protected bike infrastructure doesn't exist in most of the USA, so visibility is a key part of staying safe. It can be even more difficult during the darker winter months. Children's bikes are lower to the ground. Cars, SUVs and trucks have grown larger, which creates a bigger front blind zone.
The Bike Beam is better than a bike safety flag. It shines light from a large area as a bike totem so that you can be easily seen from a distance. Have fun with the changing colors and make those you ride past smile.

Designed to keep my kid visible
I started this project after a few night rides with my child. I realized that it was hard to see her riding in the dark. Even with headlights and tail lights. Her bike was so low to the ground that they didn't stand out. The Slow Streets near us in Oakland were a great addition, but they didn't always get us to where we needed to go. I was worried that we wouldn't be seen by drivers.

I want families to feel welcome riding at night.
I've designed the light to fit into a standard metal bracket for mounting onto an axle. Or you can attach it with the flexible straps to a rack or a cargo bike. The base of the pole includes a rechargeable battery, charged via a standard USB port. A single button turns the light on and off and changes color and blink mode.
